RIDING/HORSEMANSHIP LESSONS

At Scio Church Stables, our goal is to provide fun & educational lessons in a safety conscious, pleasant atmosphere.

We believe that "riding" includes basic horsemanship skills: ground-handling, grooming, "tacking", and understanding horse behavior.  Horsemanship skill training is incorporated in our riding lessons, promoting

effective communication with the horse, and a more rewarding and safe ride.

Riding lessons may begin as early as 5 years of age, extending though adulthood.

We offer both English and Western lessons, Monday through Saturday.

Come out and visit, meet our staff, and ask questions!.

Extreme Weather Policy

In extreme HOT or COLD weather conditions lessons may be modified. 

Lessons may be unmounted, and covering age and level appropriate topics of horsemanship.

For just such occasions, we have materials for hands-on lessons in tack and grooming, a library of educational materials and large screen display, as well as a bit of hot chocolate.

Cancellation Policy

Our instructors plan their day around your lessons!

If for any reason a student will be absent, please notify the instructor as soon as possible.

SCS reserves the right to charge for the missed lesson when less than 24 hours notice has been recieved. 

RIDING LESSONS MAKE GREAT PRESENTS!!

All you need is a nice pony or horse, an indoor arena to keep the winter at bay, a warm observation room, saddle, saddle pad, bridle, barrels, jumps & poles, cones, bridal paths and trails, horsemanship books and videos & large screen,

PLUS a GREAT INSTRUCTOR!

MOST RIDERS DO NOT "GO IT ALONE". 

Family and friends support them, chauffuer them, fund them, and watch them ride.  

Our facility has old time charm, but also has modern conveniences such as close parking, a comfortable, heated observation room and heated indoor restrooms. 

We try our best to adhere to schedules, as riding is one of many demands on the individual and his/her family time.

Weight Limit

In the interest of our norses' and ponies' long term health and happiness, we must observe weight limits!

We match mounts to riders who are less than 15-20% of the horse or pony's weight.

The maximum weight our horses can comfortably carry for lessons is #200.
